Who’s The Grownup?

The premise of this dueling blog is simple. Two family members - a mom and a high school senior - blog daily on the same subjects. One topic will be drawn from a recent front page news story and the other will be soft news, pop culture or just simple life observations. Each of us blog independently on the same topic and post at the same time. We have very limited editorial control over each other’s posts. Perhaps it goes without saying that we won’t always agree.

Scout and Joan are also clear that age does not define maturity. Joan was once told (by Scout) that she was like an 8 year old trapped in a grownup body. And as for Scout, depending on the day, she can be wise beyond her years or behave like a big baby. It’s just never really clear who the grownup is around here. Thus, the title.

We hope that parents and kids find their way to this blog and you are compelled to weigh in with us. Offer your point of view about who you feel offers the most mature (read: grownup) observation. Suggest topics you’d be interested in hearing our respective points of view about. Be a part of our community.

People often complain that kids and parents don’t talk to one another - that they often talk AT one another. We think this is an unique space for us to talk AT one another while each of you listens in.

Being a parent of a teenager is not always fun. Being a teenager with parents can be miserable. With this blog, we’re going to try to make the most of it.

    Hi Joan & Scout–

I’m currently working with Hasbro, Inc. and Electronic Arts Inc. on their new SCRABBLE ® game for Facebook.

I found your site while searching for people who like playing Scrabble on Facebook and wanted to invite both of you to be part of an exclusive closed BETA test of the new SCRABBLE® game for Facebook.

If you accept the invitation, I hope you’ll share your experience with your site’s readers. And, of course, we’d also love for you to share your thoughts on the game with us directly.

If you’re interested in becoming one of the first to play EA’s new SCRABBLE game for Facebook, simply reply (be sure to mention your site names) and I’ll send you quick directions for joining the BETA test.

Thanks so much for your time—
    Best,
    Victoria
