It’s not really a competition. I think my mom’s cat is wonderful. Really I do. But then there is Louie.
Louie arrived at our home for Christmas. He came from a local shelter. He wasn’t the cutest cat at the shelter but there was something about him. Six of us (family plus boyfriend) crammed into a small room at this shelter. This kitten allowed himself to be passed from person to person to person. He seemed to like all of us. As we are all unique in our own ways, that was impressive.
My mother, who can only seem to train her cat to eat heartily, passed along a cat manual to me and I was intrigued to read that cats can be trained to do things. Wow.
I learned about “clicker training.” I bought a clicker at Petco and after just a week, Louie races like a madman when he hears that clicker. What a sense of power I feel. I sure know that I can’t get my children to be that responsive.
My stretch goal is to teach Louie to fetch. But for now, I’ll be satisfied with getting Louie to sprawl all over my laptop so I have a legitimate reason to procrastinate writing.
