You never know how things will evolve with college roommates. But Scout seems to have lucked out. Anna (pictured here on the left)?Ǭ†seems mighty nice. And while Scout’s mothers were a bit anxious about the fact that Anna is from George W. Bush country, we learned to our delight and relief that she lives in one of the only two “blue” counties in the state of Texas.
But the truth is you never know. Just yesterday an 18 year old girl went postal and murdered her roommate at the University of Arizona – an awful and tragic story.
Clearly this young woman had psychological issues but I would guess that they were not shared with the University of Arizona prior to admissions for fear that it would jeopardize her admissions. Having been a dorm director at several colleges in a past life, I’ve seen evidence of this far too often. Very sad.
But meanwhile, our family is counting our lucky stars (like the ones on Scout’s patriotic comforter). Scout is still saying very nice things about Anna and I hope the reverse is also true.
Also, in the spirit of full disclosure, I think Anna should know something. On Monday, while you and your parents were at Bed Bath and Beyond, Scout moved her desk about 3/4 inch over giving you ever so slightly less room for your pop up laundry hamper. She stood silently for a few minutes after the move. She couldn’t handle the guilt. She moved the desk back.
Anna, I believe you can rest easy.
