Fridge for Scout’s dorm room.

OK. I have no clue who this guy is. But he sure does like his fridge, doesn’t he? I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone quite so happy about his refridgerator. I hope Scout will be this happy with HER fridge.

Maybe I am losing it. It’s possible. But here’s why I posted this picture. When Scout has her moments of doubt about college, she says “I hope it’s not like camp. I hated camp.” This appears to be a genetic thing. Eileen hated camp too. She ran away from her camp (after a star turn as Golde in Fiddler on the Roof). Scout never did that. She’s not that big on running. She’s much more of a “can you pick me up now?” girl.

I keep telling Scout that college is not like camp. Eileen is going to great lengths to make sure that it doesn’t feel that way to her. The first stop was the comforter store where Eileen bought Scout a beautiful feather bed for her extra long twin mattress (Note to all who are college bound with your kids – FEATHERBEDS TAKE UP ALOT OF ROOM IN A CAR). We’ve already spoken about the threadcount on the sheets.

I shouldn’t be too cynical about all this. There was a very sweet moment the other day involving a key decision. What comfy blanky (throw blanket) should accompany Scout to Boston? Scout did her very best six year old imitation and cuddled up under 3 or 4 options. Ultimately the decision was easy. She went with the afghan my mother knitted for her. (although I heard a rumor that an additional high end cotton throw has been ordered “just in case.”)

So here’s what I’m thinking. I’m thinking that Scout should stop making camp analogies in her head and start making Four Seasons analogies. Thus the picture. Don’t think dorm fridge, Scout. Think mini-bar!!!
